A targeted police operation in Cape Town has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man after officers allegedly uncovered an unlicensed firearm during a search in Goodwood.
The arrest forms part of ongoing crime-prevention efforts under Operation Lockdown III, a policing initiative aimed at disrupting illegal firearms and violent crime hotspots across the metro.
Police confirmed that officers were deployed in the Bishop Lavis policing precinct on Friday when information received by authorities pointed them to a property in Holland Street, as reported by Radio 786.
Acting on that intelligence, police searched the premises, where a revolver and six rounds of ammunition were discovered inside a bedroom.
The suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and was taken into custody at the scene.
The man is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 7 April on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
