An injured Cape clawless otter was spotted on a Sea Point beach earlier today, visibly wounded before retreating into a stormwater drain. The otter, which had cuts on its head and paws, is believed to have been attacked by a dog, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The SPCA has urged dog owners to leash their pets near wildlife and is calling on the public to report any sightings to assist in the otter’s rescue, as per The Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum.
Cape clawless otters, though adaptable to urban environments, face increasing threats from human activity.
While the full extent of the otter’s injuries remains unknown, authorities remain on alert, hoping for a safe resolution.
