Social distancing is something citizens across the world have been implementing. It involves curbing the spread of an infection or disease by staying indoors as much as possible, and being very careful about where one goes when in public.

In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing has become a necessity to ensure that less people are at risk of contracting the virus – particularly vulnerable persons. These include the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

While many have been staying safely indoors, there are still those who are going about their business beyond the comforts of home. A new social media trend that goes by the name #istayhomefor is highlighting the importance of being mindful of others during the time of the pandemic, and telling beautiful stories of why they are staying home to protect their loved ones.

Take a look at some of the inspirational stories:

This is why we are staying home.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This beautiful lady is my grandmother, and is at high risk should she get the COVID 19 virus. We love her more than anything, certainly more than anything material, and so we stay home (this pic is from Valentine’s Day). ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ We also have high risk loved ones who are battling cancer. They will continue to receive treatment at the hospitals that will be overrun by patients if we don’t flatten the curve. So, we stay home.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This is hard stuff, especially for my young twin boys who want to go to school, play sports, and see all their friends. They’ve had two much anticipated vacations cancelled this week. There is a good possibility that the beloved daily park hikes we’ve been going on will be put on hold if the state initiates “shelter in place” orders.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ But part of my responsibility as a parent is to teach them that what we are doing is for the greater good. It’s an important life lesson that we as parents usually have to stretch out over the course of childhood in little moments. But we have this collective crisis to show them about compassion and empathy in real time. To remind them that love is greater than fear. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ So who are you staying in for?⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #stadiumswithmysons #wegotthis #socialdistancing #covid19 #loveisgreaterthanfear #istayhomefor #imstayinghome #washyourhands #stayhome #forthegreatergood #teachthemright
