The organisers of Johannesburg Pride have announced that the event will go ahead despite the U.S. Embassy’s alert to a possible terror attack this weekend.

“From a South African perspective, we believe that all lives matter. Johannesburg Pride has not been directly threatened, nor have we received any communication from outside parties other than what the media assumed via the US Embassy’s website.”

On Wednesday 26 October the US Embassy issued a security alert warning of a possible attack in the Sandton nightclub area on Saturday when Johannesburg Pride is set to take place.
