Footage emerging from the KFC outlet in Belhar, Cape Town, has sparked widespread outrage after it revealed the restaurant in what appear to be unhygienic conditions while staff were seen simultaneously preparing food and fulfilling delivery orders.
The video, which started circulating on social media platforms on Monday, has raised significant concerns about food safety and cleanliness at the fast-food chain.
The visuals depict a chaotic kitchen littered with food and waste while employees continue with food preparation.
In response to the backlash, KFC issued a statement to Cape Town Etc, acknowledging the video and asserting their commitment to hygiene: ‘KFC is aware of a video circulating online with respect to the KFC Belhar restaurant. KFC requires that all restaurants comply with stringent food-safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards and does not condone the behaviour depicted in the footage.’
The statement assured the public that the company is taking the matter seriously and is addressing it with the franchisee, confirming that immediate retraining and corrective actions are being implemented at the Belhar location.
