Western Cape police are investigating a Khayelitsha shooting after two men were killed in Gaya Street, Harare, on Friday, 17 April 2026, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The victims, a 24-year-old Malawian national and a 35-year-old Somali national, were busy offloading a bread delivery when gunmen struck in broad daylight.
According to SAPS, officers responded to reports of gunfire at around 3:30pm. ‘This office confirms that Harare police registered two counts of murder following a shooting incident,’ said media liaison officer Constable Ndakhe Gwala.
On arrival, officers found both victims with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
Police said the Khayelitsha shooting unfolded quickly. ‘The deceased were offloading a bread delivery when three unknown suspects came and opened fire, then fled,’ Gwala confirmed.
Emergency services declared both men dead on the scene.
‘The motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage, and no arrest has been made,’ Gwala added.
Investigators are now gathering statements and following up on leads as they work to trace the suspects.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and small business operators in the area, where delivery drivers often operate under pressure.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
