Kirstenhof police station has been named the Best Lieutenant Colonel Station of the Year at the SAPS Western Cape Excellence Awards, an honour that recognises steady, community-centred policing, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The awards were held on 17 January at Century City, where Provincial and SAPS leaders praised officers and partners for service excellence.

Warrant Officer Deidre Solomon said the prize is especially meaningful given ongoing staff shortages and operational pressures.
She underlined that strong ties with the Community Police Forum, neighbourhood watches and private security firms made the difference.

Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Jones, who will retire in February after 40 years of service, thanked his team and community partners.
‘This achievement belongs to every member and every community partner who stood with us through challenges and successes alike,’ he said.
Geoff Bettison, chair of the Kirstenhof Community Police Forum, described the award as a milestone for the whole precinct. He called the result proof that the ‘Kirstenhof Model’ of coordinated action works.
The district commander accepted the trophy on the station’s behalf and the accolade now serves as a model other precincts may study when building community trust and preventing crime.
