A series of targeted operations by Knysna police this week led to significant drug seizures and the arrest of suspected copper thieves, showcasing how community tip-offs are helping crack down on crime in the Western Cape.
Acting on public intelligence, officers confiscated 11kg of dagga worth R90,000 and arrested three suspects, while separate busts netted stolen copper cables and tik in Mossel Bay and Laingsburg.
Police reports indicate that Knysna’s Crime Prevention Unit acted on a tip-off Wednesday night, raiding a container doubling as a barber shop. Inside, they found 65 bankies of dagga, leading them to a nearby house where an additional stash was uncovered. According to the South African Police Service, a 24-year-old woman and two men, aged 26 and 29 now face drug dealing charges.
In a separate case, Da Gamaskop police intercepted a vehicle near a scrapyard after receiving intel about stolen copper cables. The haul, worth R20,000, led to the arrest of a 51-year-old suspect for possession of suspected stolen property.
Meanwhile, Laingsburg officers on patrol arrested two men after finding 24 bankies of tik and mandrax tablets during a routine search. The suspects now face drug possession charges.
