The latest Langeberg fire update confirms that several fire lines in the Rooiberg and Meulplaas areas have been mostly contained, bringing measured relief to communities in the Cape Winelands, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) Fire Services, the section between Orange Grove and Droëheuwel is now fully contained.
However, firefighters continue to manage an active line in the Dassieshoek area, where flames are burning slowly towards Protea farm on the Montagu side of the Koo Valley.

In a statement issued at 11am on 25 February, CWDM confirmed that teams remain on site to monitor conditions and conduct active firefighting where possible.
The fire lines above Rooiberg created difficulties overnight as strengthening winds pushed flames towards nearby properties.
‘The successful suppression of the fire was due to the combined efforts of multiple purpose-built 4×4 firefighting vehicles and crews, supported by effective ground teams, local farmers and cooler nighttime weather conditions,’ the municipality said.
A second fire above Meulplaas along the R62 continues to burn in a broken line. Steep and rugged terrain limits direct access and presents safety risks to crews.
