Liam Jacobs has decisively rejoined the Democratic Alliance (DA) just one year after his controversial switch to the Patriotic Alliance (PA), Cape {town} Etc reports.
The 25-year-old political figure, known for his outspoken presence in Parliament, announced his decision to return to his former party early on Monday morning.
Jacobs first made headlines in June 2025 when he left the DA to join the PA, a leap that not only surprised many but also rattled the political status quo.
His recruitment into the PA was broadcast on social media, marking what appeared to be a significant shift in his political allegiance at the time.
However, the DA claimed they had not received a formal resignation letter when the announcement was made, suggesting a potential rift in communication within the party ranks.
Over the span of a tumultuous year, Jacobs has embarked on a whirlwind political journey, having left the DA, served on multiple city councils, and eventually returned to Parliament, only to switch allegiances once again.
His time within the PA saw him actively engage in municipal governance, but it became clear that his heart was still tied to the DA, culminating in his dramatic return.
His re-entry into the DA was confirmed by Geordin Hill-Lewis, leader of the DA in the Western Cape, who took to social media platforms to celebrate Jacobs’ homecoming.
In a live video before this confirmation, Jacobs was seen donning a PA T-shirt while discussing themes of leadership and growth.
He openly reflected on the mistakes often made by young leaders navigating the complex political terrain, emphasising the need for reflection and adaptability in leadership roles.
What followed during the live stream became a moment of political symbolism that captivated viewers. Jacobs excused himself to fetch a drink, and upon his return, he was seen wearing a blue shirt—an unmistakable nod to the DA’s colours.
