“As human beings we are often so focused on what is wrong with the world that we forget to appreciate and celebrate the many beautiful things that we have in our everyday lives. One of those are the incredible privilege to share one’s life with a dog,” Pieter Schoeman told Cape {town} Etc.
It’s true: there is no better companion than a dog. Fierce loyalty, emotional support, our protectors and best friends.
There’s a little saying that goes along the lines of dogs being angels sent from heaven to be by our side here on Earth. Those who have such four-legged companions would surely agree (even if they pee on your carpet and fart in your bed).
Pieter’s angel, Jet, recently retired back to his home in heaven after being by his humans side for 15-years.
“This weekend we paid tribute to our black Cocker Spaniel called Jet, who was just the most gorgeous, beautiful animal. He made us laugh every single day and his love and companionship provided strength and support through some very difficult times,” said Pieter.
Jet’s family, Pieter and Denys, wanted to offer him a special goodbye.
“We went to Smitswinkel beach to pay tribute to him. For the occasion, my partner Deneys Olivier and I used a photo of as a basis for Sebastian of Lasercutting Cape Town to make laser cuts, which we then spray-painted.”
“The black versions were for the 15-years of his life and the time I spent with him, the silver versions symbolise his silver years when Deneys joined us and compassionately took care of him and his ailments. The colourful ones are for his colourful character. There was a red one, since he always wore a red collar.”
Pieter says that he is proud to have made such beautiful art in his honour and will treasure the memorial and Jet, always.
