If there‘s one thing that I love about Capetonians, it‘s that it doesnt take much convincing to enjoy a lekker day out at the beach, writes Cape {town} Etc‘s Lynn Cupido. As temperatures continue to soar in the Mother City, locals packed their cooler boxes and umbrellas under the cover of darkness in the hopes of grabbing a top-tier spot at their favourite cooling-off destination.
If you‘re okay with having beach sand beat against your legs every few minutes, then Blouberg Beach is a great choice for a day spent enjoying incredible views of Table Mountain, watching kite surfers and exfoliating your legs (thanks wind). Clifton and Camps Bay – let’s skip this because we all know it’s packed.
However, it was the fact that hundreds of Capetonians flocked to Sea Point that really surprised me. Well, Sea Point Pavilion. Social media has been overflowing with images and videos of people queuing outside of the popular cool-off spot, with many attempting to submerge themselves in its heavenly and cooling waters.
Some have reportedly been standing in line since 6 am, while Muizenberg beach had many beachgoers packed like sardines with no COVID protocols in sight.
Take a look at some of the astonishing videos/images:
