According to the City of Cape Town, the work targets aging infrastructure and severe leaks, including a 535mm diameter pipeline near Vangate Mall that requires urgent attention.
Alderman Zahid Badroodien, Mayco Member for Water and Sanitation, explained: ‘This proactive maintenance prevents larger crises and reduces water losses from leaks.’
The city added that some areas (Hanover Park, Rylands, Belgravia) will experience pressure fluctuations until November as crews conduct system upgrades. These are part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy to reduce pipe bursts.
Meanwhile, zero-pressure tests in Dunoon (12 Aug) and Bellville (13 Aug) will help map unmapped inflows before installing new pressure valves. Residents may experience unpredictable low pressure during these tests.
