According to several reports, Abdul-Kader Davids was shot and killed on Thursday in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain.
He stood accused on charges relating to fraud, corruption and money laundering as part of a larger case involving alleged underworld kingpin and 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield, his wife Nicole Johnson and former Cape Town human settlements Mayco member Malusi Booi.
Detectives of the Western Cape SAPS commercial crimes unit made several arrests in Johannesburg, Eastern Cape and Cape Town last week. At the time, Booi was alleged to be among those arrested.
His office was raided last March and investigators seized several items after it was revealed that he received cash gratifications from gang members to obtain tenders from the City of Cape Town.
Last week, Booi was accused of being part of this enterprise, allegedly headed by Stanfield and Johnson.
According to a draft charge sheet, Stanfield and Johnson were the ‘main roleplayers in the enterprise, making arrangements to facilitate and fund the unlawful activities, including agreements with suppliers, agreements with persons such as Accused 1 to 10…’
‘To directly or indirectly and wrongfully and unlawfully accept and/or agree and/or offer to accept gratification and/or other benefits from another to obtain tenders from the City of Cape Town.’
As reported by Daily Maverick, it was believed that Davids shared company directorship with Johnson.
While Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie did not confirm that Davids was the victim of the fatal shooting, it was confirmed that a 42-year-old male’s body was discovered outside a premises in Beacon Valley just two days after Davids was released on an R250 000 bail.
SmileFM reports that his body was discovered around 9pm on Thursday.
Booi and his co-accused were also released on bail.
However, Daily Maverick understands that it is indeed Davids.
