A man died at the scene of a fire in Strand during the early hours of Tuesday morning [August 18], luckily the children in the house were found unharmed.

“When the City’s Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at a house in Seventh Street at about 1.30am, the caller stated the fire was spreading to adjacent houses and that there were children trapped inside,” said City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse. “Fire crews arrived quickly and managed to contain and extinguish the fire by 2am.”

On the scene they found a man who was unconscious and had been dragged to a neighbour’s house. Fire Service medics and Metro ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate him, but CPR was terminated at 2.27am.

“The children were found safe and unharmed,” Carelse added.
