On Sunday February 2, NSRI began the search for a man who had gone missing in the surf at Monwabisi while swimming.

City of Cape Town lifeguards initiated the search, while NSRI Strandfontein dispatched a sea rescue vehicle and launched the sea rescue craft Sharon and Film Industry Fund Rescuer 1 and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter.

“Despite an extensive sea, air and shoreline search, which included Fire Dive Unit rescue divers, NSRI rescue swimmers and CoCT lifeguards deployed into the surf conducting free dive sweeping line search efforts, no sign of the man has been found,” said NSRI Strandfontein station commander, Vaughn Seconds.

A Police Dive Unit are continuing the search operation.

The man’s 8 year-old daughter was found at their car in the parking lot and has been taken into Police care.
