A 60-year-old man sustained serious injuries when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed it in an underground parking lot on Thursday morning.

ER24 confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying the incident occurred in a mall in Tokai.

“A man, believed to be in his 60s, was left seriously injured this morning when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to crash in an underground parking at a mall in Tokai, Western Cape.”

Rescue services and ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at 11.40am and found the vehicle up against a small wall in the parking area. Reports indicate that the driver was found lying next to his crashed vehicle.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained serious injuries to his waist and leg, leaving him in a serious condition.”

The driver was treated for his injuries at the scene and provided with pain relief medication before being transported to Groote Schuur Hospital. There is no current update on the man’s condition.

Local authorities who were on the scene are carrying out an investigation on the incident.
