A 27-year-old Tulbagh resident has been arrested after he admitted to killing a community doctor on Monday evening [June 1]. Dr Roelof Botha’s body was discovered by a couple who were driving near his farm.

He was found with multiple stab wounds at 6.45pm on Schalkenbosch Road.

As reported by News24, Aiden Abels admitted to using pair of sheep shears to kill Botha when he appeared in the local magistrate’s court on Thursday, June 4.

Alongside Abels were co-accused Justin Adonis (30), a 17-year-old girl, and Andrew Gouts (30). The girl cannot be named as she is a minor, but will reportedly be moved to live in a youth centre until her 18th birthday in October.

According to Tulbagh police, Botha was killed when he was attacked at his farm’s zebra camp.

The male co-accused have applied for legal aide and will make another court appearance on June 9.
