An evening in late September saw an argument turn for the twisted worst after a man from Gugulethu left with a cold drink bottle and reportedly returned with petrol to douse his girlfriend with before setting her alight.

Jacqueline Mponstana had attempted to run for her life after the event took place. The house ended up burning amidst the violence with Jacqueline.
She suffered fatal burn wounds. She died two days after the act on September 21, leaving her son in grade 7 behind.
Jacqueline was a worker for the Western Cape Government’s Department of Community Safety, where she played an important role in monitoring police compliance alongside domestic abuse cases.
The lines between her field of work and home life were unfortunately very close in proximity. The couple had reportedly broken up and attempted to reconcile shortly before the alleged final act of violence happened.
The suspect, her boyfriend Sibindane, had a warrant out for his arrest almost immediately, however it is believed that he fled the police swiftly. After months of reportedly being on the run, he finally appeared in court today, January 24.
He faced the music alone and was met with no support from family or friends according to News24.
The case has been postponed to January 31 for bail proceedings.
