Residents of Manenberg are on high alert following a brazen shooting that left an alleged gangster dead and an innocent bystander wounded on Thursday morning, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The incident occurred around 7am at the corner of Manenberg and Thames Avenue, sending shockwaves through a community already familiar with the devastating effects of gang-related violence.
According to eyewitness accounts, the alleged gangster was discovered slumped behind the driver’s seat of a vehicle, riddled with bullets, while an innocent man, known locally as an electrician, was shot in the chaos and subsequently taken to hospital.
Tensions were high as locals recounted the terrifying scene of the shooting, which was executed with shocking precision.
Witnesses described a swift and calculated attack involving two vehicles. One car reportedly pulled up in front of the victim’s vehicle while another approached from behind. In a rapid-fire assault, three gunmen emerged and opened fire, leaving the alleged gangster and his companion caught in the crossfire.
Captain FC van Wyk, a spokesperson for the Manenberg police, confirmed that two counts of murder have been registered following the incident.
‘Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation,’ Van Wyk stated.
He added that the motive remains unclear and that the assailants fled the scene after the attack.
