Visitors walking into libraries across Cape Town may soon find themselves face-to-face with a familiar figure, not a librarian, but Manzi, the City’s well-known water conservation mascot, Cape {town} Etc reports.
It comes after the City began rolling out life-size cut-outs of Manzi in libraries across the metro, placing water awareness directly into everyday community spaces.
The initiative was officially introduced at the Central Library, where Mayoral Committee Members for Water and Sanitation and for Community Services and Health joined the launch.
Drawing from a recent City statement, officials emphasised that the campaign is less about visibility and more about behaviour.
‘The reality is that every drop we save now helps protect our water supply for the months ahead,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, adding that delayed and potentially reduced rainfall means the city ‘cannot afford to be complacent.’

By placing Manzi in high-traffic public spaces, the City aims to make water awareness ‘unavoidable,’ particularly among younger residents.
With dam levels currently hovering around 45%, the City is urging residents to keep collective water consumption below 860 million litres per day.
