The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service has successfully brought a fire that erupted in Masiphumelele early on Monday morning under control, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said an emergency call was received at around 04:30 about structures burning in Masiphumelele.

One of the first officers on the scene called for additional help after seeing the fire’s extent.
Fourteen firefighting units and over 70 staff, including the incident management team, were deployed to the scene.
Officials set up an Incident Command Post on Houmoed Avenue, where operations were being coordinated.
Carelse added that electricity to the area had been cut to reduce risks from overhead wires.
Teams from Gift of the Givers were deployed after the latest fire.
Spokesperson Ali Sablay said they’ve been receiving calls for help since 5am today.
Once the area is declared safe by firefighters, their staff will provide aid.
They are also assisting victims of five other blazes in the Western Cape over the past five days.
TEARS Animal Rescue staff, with help from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, are securing and ensuring the safety of all animals.
Indications are that more than a hundred shacks have been destroyed in the Masiphumelele informal settlement fire.
