Three men were killed and four others injured in a shooting in Kalksteenfontein, Bishop Lavis, on Thursday evening, 12 March, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to police, the victims were part of a group of seven men who had been sitting outside a residence when the attack occurred.
Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the incident in Soetkop Street unfolded at approximately 8:10pm, when a vehicle arrived at the scene, and several armed suspects emerged.
‘Three armed men alighted and started shooting randomly at the group,’ Potelwa confirmed. ‘The gunmen later fled in the vehicle.’
Potelwa added that the three victims, aged 40, 64 and 66, were declared deceased at the scene, while the four others who were wounded in the shooting were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Detectives from the SAPS Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit are investigating the incident, which is believed to be gang-related. Bishop Lavis police have registered three counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.
‘No arrests have been effected yet, but investigations into the incident continue,’ said Potelwa, adding that deployments in the area have been bolstered to prevent further incidents.
