Minister Gayton McKenzie used his Reconciliation Day speech to call for national unity, reports Cape {town} Etc.
He told the crowd: ‘From next year, we shall celebrate this important day together as a nation.’
Speaking at the event, McKenzie praised the Government of National Unity and said the GNU had created 300 000 jobs in the third quarter (YouTube).
He said the country’s economy shows early signs of stability and noted lower inflation and a stronger rand.

The minister linked sport to national pride. He reminded the audience of a presidential request and celebrated football success, saying he was ‘wearing a Bafana Bafana t-shirt’ as the team had qualified for the FIFA World Cup. It is to be held in America next year.

The remarks at the Reconciliation Day event sought to pivot public attention to unity and delivery, while also igniting a debate about tone and accountability.
‘We are going somewhere,’ McKenzie told delegates. His call for one national celebration sets a clear political line for the year ahead.
