Meghan Markle has landed in hot water after sharing a Paris video that many online critics have slammed as ‘tone-deaf’ and ‘disrespectful’ to the memory of Princess Diana, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, was in the French capital to make her debut appearance at Paris Fashion Week, where she attended Balenciaga’s runway show to support her friend and designer Pier Paolo Piccioli.
Wearing a striking all-white Balenciaga outfit, Meghan turned heads as she arrived, with her signature polished look sparking a flurry of reactions from royal watchers and fashion insiders alike. But it wasn’t her outfit that had people talking.
Shortly after the event, Meghan uploaded a brief Instagram Story filmed from inside her car as she travelled through the city. The video showed scenic views of the Pont Alexandre III and Pont des Invalides bridges, before the camera tilted downward to reveal her feet resting on the seat in front of her.
What drew backlash, however, was the location. Viewers were quick to point out that the next bridge along the Seine, Pont de l’Alma, was where Princess Diana tragically lost her life in a car crash in 1997.

Royal supporters and social media users criticised the timing and context of Meghan’s post, calling it ‘insensitive’ given the proximity to such a deeply symbolic site. Others argued that it showed a lack of awareness, especially as she continues to face scrutiny for her public image and relationship to the late Princess’s legacy.

Despite the backlash, Meghan has remained silent on the controversy, focusing instead on her Paris Fashion Week appearances, which marked her first major European fashion event in years.
As online debate continues, the duchess’s brief video has once again reignited the tense divide between her supporters and critics, a reminder that anything linked to Princess Diana’s memory remains an emotional topic for royal followers worldwide.
