If you’re a member of Virgin Active or Planet Fitness gyms, rest assured that your debit order will not go off for the month of April. As gyms were categotised as non-essential, South Africans have not been able to visit their local iron jungle.

Memberships and fees have been temporarily frozen by Virgin Active for lockdown. This decision however was made before the two week extension. Speaking to My Broadband, Virgin Active said that for the entire duration of lockdown, members will not have their accounts debited.

Once the lockdown has been lifted, memberships and debit orders will be reinstated. The company is also paying their staff in full and top management have also incurred salary cuts to help cover the loss of income from no new memberships.

Planet Fitness also spoke with My Broadband and explained that it has temporarily paused membership fees. Members will not be billed for April.

Future billing from May going forward are still to be decided once government gives gyms the green light to reopen.

Both Virgin Active and Planet Fitness are offering free virtual classes to members and non-members. Non-members of Virgin Active will be able to access the free class once a day through their social media platforms at 7:30 am everyday.

To access Planet Fitness classes for free, all you have to do is register on their website.
