When metro police officers stopped a speeding vehicle and smelled dagga, they called in K9 Khalesi. Three men were arrested, and their drug stash was confiscated. These were just three of the arrests made by City authorities this week.

Officers were conducting crime prevention patrols on McIntyre Road in Parow around 7:45am yesterday when they noticed a vehicle with three occupants speeding past.
They advised the motorist to stop, but he initially refused and continued driving. He later complied after officers turned on their lights and sirens.
As the driver rolled down his window, the officers detected a strong odour of dagga coming from inside the vehicle.
They immediately requested a K9 to assist in the search.
Khalesi discovered a plastic bag containing 42 packets of tik, 29 packets of dagga, and three medium packets of cocaine hidden in a vehicle compartment.

The driver then attempted to bribe the officers, but both he and his two passengers were arrested for drug possession, and the driver was charged with bribery.
The suspects, aged 39, 45 and 63, were detained at Parow SAPS.
‘Our two-legged and four-legged officers continue to make inroads on the drug trade flooding our neighbourhoods. Every drug taken off the street is potentially someone saved from an overdose or prevented from taking that first hit and becoming addicted.’
‘The proliferation of drugs and the related abuse erodes our social fabric and leads to many other ills, including an increase in crime. Every drug bust is a step in the right direction,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
Metro police officers arrested 54 people, 41 of whom were charged with drug possession or sale.
On Thursday, Cape Town Traffic Services made a Top 100 arrest following a warrant check.
The driver was detained at Wynberg Police Station after being charged with 35 outstanding warrants totalling R111 300.
In the last week, traffic officers recorded 55 930 violations, impounded 179 vehicles and executed 1 726 arrest warrants.
They also arrested 58 drivers, including 49 for driving under the influence of alcohol, three for reckless and negligent driving, and six for other offences.
Law enforcement officers issued 3 225 notices and made 230 arrests. These included arrests for possessing drugs, ammunition, and dangerous weapons.
This weekend, the PECC received 1 504 calls, nearly half of which were medical complaints (637). The centre also reported 94 assaults, 52 vehicle accidents, and 41 domestic violence reports.
‘It is good to know residents are aware of who to call in an emergency. The figures across most of the other categories are lower mid-month, but this doesn’t mean we can take a breather. Our directorate staff continue to be available to assist those who need it and to help ensure our communities are safer,’ said Smith.
