As reported by IOL, Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott outlined two issues that have contributed to the forced temporary suspension of the train service:
“The first is an unprecedented number of critical train operations employees (drivers, guards and control officers) being affected by exposure to Covid-19 positive cases and having to follow the necessary precautionary measures, including the sanitising of facilities; and the second issue is the prevailing security situation in the Province that has adversely impacted staff transport options, exacerbating the situation.”
“Both issues should improve over the weekend and we will inform commuters as soon as we are able to restore services safely,” Scott said.
Plans to disinfect and sanitise facilities will be done during the weekend while contingency arrangements will be communicated once confirmed.
