The court case involving learners from Milnerton High School, linked to the school assault video that sparked national attention last year, has been postponed, with the accused now expected back in court in March.
The matter was due to be heard on Tuesday, 20 January, but was delayed to allow investigators more time to complete outstanding work linked to the case, as per the Daily Voice.
The postponement affects six adult learners facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while two accused who are minors are being dealt with separately through the children’s court system.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that key investigative steps are still underway. NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: ‘The consultation with the victims and downloading of photographs are still outstanding.’
The delay means the case against the six accused, who have been appearing in Court 26, will resume in March. Their bail has been extended, and all conditions remain unchanged.
The matter stems from an incident in October 2025, after footage circulated widely on social media showing a younger learner being assaulted by senior pupils.
The video depicts older learners repeatedly hitting a 16-year-old Grade 10 learner with belts, pipes and a wooden plank.
Some of the accused are allegedly linked to the school’s first team rugby squad. The accused face eight counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Following the incident, all eight learners were suspended and criminally charged.
