After weeks of being in the public eye following a viral bullying video that saw eight teenagers charged with assault, Milnerton High School has taken a powerful step toward healing.
On Friday, 31 October, the school hosted ‘Dress to Express Day’, an event intended to turn a difficult chapter into a message of hope, kindness and unity.
Originally planned as a Halloween dress-up, the initiative became a day for learners to express themselves freely and positively.
‘Learners dressed in ways that reflect who they are, what brings them joy, and what inspires them,’ the school shared.
The event culminated in an assembly led by guest speaker and life coach Portia Khambi, who encouraged learners to ‘be the light in their school, community, and country’.
Her words echoed Milnerton High’s motto, Lux Esto, meaning ‘Let There Be Light.’
Khambi reminded students that even in challenging moments, compassion and courage can redefine a community’s future.
For Milnerton High, the Dress to Express Day was more than a symbolic gesture; it was an effort to rebuild a sense of trust and belonging.
‘We believe this initiative captures the heart of what Milnerton High stands for; a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every learner feels valued and seen,’ the school said.
