The arrest followed a Hawks search-and-seizure operation at a Milnerton house on 23 December, which led officers to identify a human trafficking victim at the property and to interview the alleged trafficker at the scene, reports Cape Argus.
Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed investigators rescued a victim during the operation.
‘One victim was identified and thereafter the alleged trafficker was also identified and was instantly interviewed. During the interview it was discovered that he is illegally in the country,’ Hani said. The Hawks say the man will face the full might of the law for both offences.
Investigators have not released details about the victim to protect their identity. The case will proceed through the magistrate’s court, where prosecutors will present the evidence that led to the trafficking charge.
Authorities have called on anyone with information to contact the Hawks.
