The two missing boys from Khayelitsha have been found dead in a dam between Old Faure Road and the N2 Highway on Thursday, October 22.

Miyolo Gwinita and Linathi Ntshonga, who attended the same school, were playing together in Site B, Khayelitsha before they went missing at about 6pm on Thursday, October 15.

On the day of their disappearance, the two boys were playing outside of their homes before joining a group of children and hopping onto a truck assisting families from Site B to relocate to Bosasa in Delft.

The driver of the truck reportedly told the parents he had dropped the children off by the Mew Way Bridge when he discovered them in the truck.

Police in Mfuleni were alerted to clothing items floating in the water of the dam on Thursday. Police divers then recovered the bodies of the boys, reports Times Live.

“When police divers were called out to the scene, the search commenced, resulting in the retrieval of the bodies late in the evening. The two families identified the bodies as those of the two 7-year-old boys who were reported missing,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

An inquest docket has been opened for investigation, and trauma counselling has been arranged for the families of the two boys.
