Mitchells Plain primary school sexual assault allegations draw ACDP response to reports involving two Grade 5 learners at a school in the area, reports Cape {town} Etc.
In its post, the party said the Western Cape Education Department had confirmed that, based on the information available, ‘no rape took place’ and said the matter ‘remains under investigation.
Parents, officials and the school are now waiting for the outcome of the inquiry. The ACDP said the reports had left parents ‘understandably concerned’ and called for stronger safeguards around school toilet facilities and learner protection.
The episode has also renewed local pressure for clear reporting lines and calm communication when children are involved.
MPP Ferlon Christians said he was ‘shocked’ by the reports and stressed that ‘Schools must be safe spaces for learners’. The party also said it ‘strongly condemns any form of sexual violence or abuse’ and backed the support steps already taken.
Daily Voice, quoting WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond, said the department had been informed of “the alleged attempted ‘sexual assault’ and that ‘the school contacted the parents immediately’.
The report added that police confirmed a ‘sexual assault case was registered’ at Mitchells Plain SAPS, while psycho-social support and disciplinary processes were arranged.
