Another suspected robber has reportedly been burnt to death in Philippi, bringing the total number of suspected mob justice attacks to four in the past week.

According to IOL, the burnt body of the unidentified man was discovered by a caretaker, Mziwethu Mketo, at Bongolthu Primary School in Browns farm on Monday.

“I found the body at around 9am while doing my routine patrol. He was visibly burnt,” Mketo was reported as saying.

Police were investigating the matter.

This came a few days after a 24-year-old man, accused of stealing clothes, was also set alight and stoned to death in an alleged mob justice attack in the same area.

Samkelo Nyeka from Kosovo informal settlement was accused of stealing clothes in nearby Mesiya informal settlement.

Nyeka’s mother was left devastated, saying although she knew about her son’s stealing tendencies, she never thought the residents would burn him alive.

On Sunday, a 23-year-old man was also stoned to death after allegedly attempting to rob a resident in Kosovo, Samora Machel.

This was after another unidentified man was found on the street on Friday after allegedly being beaten to death. He was accused of attempting to steal a cellphone in Litha Park, Khayelitsha.
