A fast response at Monwabisi Beach has drawn praise after Shark Spotters said its spotter, Siyamanga Mposi, stepped in during a near-drowning incident earlier this week, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The organisation said he ‘responded quickly and stepped in as a first responder’ after assessing the scene, calling for help and administering first aid until emergency services arrived.

Shark Spotters added that Mposi used his ‘First Aid and Advanced Trauma training’ during the emergency, while NSRI, Fire Services and Law Enforcement soon arrived on scene.
The NSRI later confirmed that its Strandfontein duty crew was alerted on Tuesday, 7 April, to a suspected drowning in progress at Monwabisi Beach.
It said a City of Cape Town Law Enforcement Marine Unit officer reached the man in distress, brought him safely to shore with help from local Shark Spotters and that the 23-year-old was stabilised on scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
NSRI said the swimmer may have been caught in rip currents and praised the ‘swift, coordinated response’ of the teams involved.
