Eskom has announced it will be implementing nationwide Stage 3 load shedding today. The country will experience power cuts from as early as 8am until as late as 11pm tonight as the power utility attempts to compensate for offline generating units.

Yesterday, the electricity provider pushed Stage 2 load shedding up to Stage 4 after additional pressure was placed on the power grid following an unexpected loss of six generating units.

This morning, Eskom has pulled back to Stage 3 thanks to the units coming back online, but not being enough for the public utility to avoid implementing load shedding altogether as emergency diesel and water reserves are low.

Residents and businesses are asked to use electricity sparingly until further notice.

With locals rushing to read the online load shedding schedules on the City’s site yesterday, the website experienced difficulties and crashed due to the sheer volume of users on it.

Locals can make use of either the Eskom schedule here or via the City’s site, which is back online, here.
