On Friday, April 9 the Garden Route SPCA was approached by an elderly woman named Mrs Maliso who needed to surrender her dog only because she could no longer financially provide the care her beloved Whiskey needed. A brave, selfless decision that speaks of her deep love for her companion.
However, Mrs Maliso’s pooch Whiskey desperately clung to his mom when the SPCA came to pick him up.
While we were busy taking sterries home an elderly lady called us to surrender her dog, because she struggles…
“My heart broke into a million pieces. How do I take a dog away from someone who loves her dog and whose dog clearly adores her just because she struggles at the moment? I simply couldn’t,” said the SPCA.
It was evident that this pair sported an unbreakable bond that in itself was worth saving.
The SPCA decided to intervene in the most incredible way – keeping the two together, while offering to drop off food for Whisky every month. As well as this, the SPCA returned to fetch this lovable good boy for a promised health check.
Whats going on? My very first visit ever at a vet. I can get use to this pampering.
Dr Chimes treated Whiskey for an eye infection, mange and removed a small cyst on his back. Whiskey has been dewormed, vaccinated and booked in for sterilisation as well. Healthy as a dog, we suppose?
The SPCA would like to extend their thanks to the public for the overwhelming support received to help Whisky and Mrs Maliso stay together. Mrs Maliso was also blessed with an abundance of personal support and upliftment from the Cape community.
Happy birthday to Charmaine Treherne! 💕❤💗🎂🍾 all the money raised for her 69th birthday will be donated for Whiskey.
With the help of the public, the SPCA will be able to help many more dogs just like Whiskey. If anyone would like to donate to a doggo in need, see the details below:
