A Marina da Gama man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife. It was initially alleged that Frances Carter was stabbed to death in the kitchen of her home at 3am on October 17 by unknown assailants, but her husband William has now been apprehended.

William (71) initially reported that Frances had been attacked by two men who broke into their Muizenberg home. She was stabbed in the back and head, and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. William also alleged that the assailants had shot him in the stomach.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson FC Van Wyk, William was arrested after being discharged from hospital for receiving treatment for his gunshot wound.

“Muizenberg police arrested a 71-year-old man [yesterday] morning on a charge of murder,” Van Wyk said. “The suspect was arrested at a medical facility at the time of his discharge at 9.30am and he is due to make a court appearance once he has been charged for murder. In addition to the murder charge, firearm-related charges are also under investigation against him.”
