Elderly William Carter (71) has been charged with the premeditated murder of his wife, Frances Carter (65). He appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, October 28 after he was released from hospital. He was being treated for a gunshot wound from the night of his wife’s killing.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson André Traut, officers responded to the scene, the Carters’ home on Uitsig Road in the Marina da Gama area, at  3.30am on Saturday, October 24.

“Upon police arrival on the scene, a 71-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The body of his wife, aged 65, was found with a stab wound on the kitchen floor,” Traut said.

William alleged that two unknown assailants had broke into their home and killed his wife, before shooting him in the belly.

The suspect was arrested at a medical facility after his discharge at 9.30am on Monday, October 26.

“In addition to the murder charge, firearm-related charges are also under investigation against him,” Traut added.

Speaking to News24, Eric Ntabazalila a spokesperson for the National Persecuting Authority (NPA), said that William had appointed a legal attorney and is expected to apply for bail on November 4.
