The Mother City is poised to enhance its rich cultural tapestry with an exciting new attraction – the Museum of Illusions, slated to open on Kloof Street on Saturday, 31 May 2025.
This captivating venue marks Cape Town’s first foray into the world of optical illusions, becoming the second Museum of Illusions in South Africa, the third on the African continent, and the 61st worldwide, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Joining the ranks of cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Shanghai, New York, and Dubai, the Cape Town Museum of Illusions is set to become a vital part of a world-class collection of sensory playgrounds.
Following the remarkable success of the Joburg Museum of Illusions, which opened last July and subsequently shattered global attendance records, Cape Town is ready to take the illusion experience to new heights.

The Museum, originally established in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2015, has quickly achieved international acclaim, welcoming over 12 million visitors globally since its inception.
Museum of Illusions South Africa owner Mark Collie states that ‘Cape Town’s creativity and curiosity make it the perfect home for our next sensory playground.’
‘After the overwhelming response in Johannesburg, we’re incredibly excited to bring the experience to the Mother City. This isn’t just a museum; it’s a space where science, art, and wonder collide to challenge how we see the world and ourselves.’
Located in the heart of Cape Town’s bustling city, the museum promises an extraordinary journey through the realms of optical illusions, interactive installations and immersive rooms. These exhibits are designed to challenge perceptions and spark curiosity among visitors of all ages.

At the Museum of Illusions Cape Town, the traditional etiquette of museums will be turned on its head. Guests are invited to interact with exhibits, through touch, play and exploration as they immerse themselves in this whimsical world.
Whether defying gravity in the Tilted Room, conjuring multiple versions of oneself at the Clone Table, or experiencing limitless reflections in the Infinity Room, visitors will find their perceptions delightfully challenged and possibly blown away.
As anticipation builds for the grand opening, the Museum of Illusions aims to not only entertain but also educate, merging the fascinating worlds of science and art in ways that provoke thought and wonder.
It promises to be an unforgettable addition to Cape Town’s ever-expanding list of attractions, ensuring that every visit is both memorable and enlightening.
