The City of Cape Town says six MyCiTi infrastructure projects in the Metro-Southeast have generated 594 temporary work opportunities worth R38.1 million over the past two years, injecting cash into households and local businesses, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The projects form part of the wider MyCiTi rollout, which the City plans to fund with R5.4 billion over the next three financial years to link Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont.

Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, described the expansion as an investment in people as much as infrastructure.
‘This investment goes way beyond the red bus lanes, stations, stops, walking and cycle lanes and upgrades to intersections and roads,’ said Quintas.
‘It is an investment in people and communities, putting bread on the table for households across the metro-south east through temporary job opportunities for local jobseekers,’ he added.
Project figures include 296 jobs at the Sky Circle project in Lansdowne, 100 at Heinz Road in Gugulethu and 56 along AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain, among others.
The City encourages residents to register or update their profiles at local sub-council offices.
Contractors draw names from the jobseeker database and successful applicants receive a text message with 24 hours to respond.
