Update:
Cape Town police confirmed that a scuffle between the naked man and officers attached to Cape Town Central SAPS resulted in the man being able to grab the firearm.
The officers responded to a complaint of a naked man on the sidewalk on Keerom Street at about 1pm on Wednesday, 3 September.
‘On arrival at the scene, they found a young naked man who refused to cooperate and cover himself. A scuffle ensued during which the man took the firearm from one member and discharged shots. Fortunately, no one was hit,’ said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie.
‘The members overpowered the suspect and arrested him on charges related to the robbery of a firearm, discharge of a firearm in a public space and public indecency. He will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court once charged.’
An unknown suspect, believed to be a man, grabbed and pulled out an officer’s firearm and began firing intermittent shots in front of him near Cape Town High Court on Wednesday afternoon, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Video footage of the naked individual standing on the opposite side of the High Court road began circulating across social media platforms shortly after. He would open fire each time the two police officers attempted to approach him.
As seen in the video, the volatile situation was diffused when the two officers managed to disarm the individual, empty the firearm’s magazine and apprehend the suspect.
