Travellers heading to and from the Eastern Cape will soon enjoy more convenience in the skies, as Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has announced the addition of two new FlySafair routes linking Lanseria International Airport with King Phalo Airport in East London and Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha.
FlySafair will operate seven flights per week from Lanseria to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, which already began this past weekend, 1 November, and six weekly flights to King Phalo Airport.
The move is expected to boost regional tourism, streamline business travel, and strengthen domestic air connectivity within South Africa.
ACSA highlighted that domestic air services have been crucial to the recovery of the aviation industry following the COVID-19 pandemic. The company stated that a resilient domestic market has been crucial to the recovery of air travel in South Africa noting that domestic travel now contributes more than 69% of ACSA’s total airport network traffic.
FlySafair’s continued growth within the South African market positions the airline to play a pivotal role in driving these airports toward full post-COVID recovery and establishing a trajectory of enduring prosperity.
The addition of these routes is also expected to stimulate local economies, promote tourism, and enhance business travel opportunities between Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, Airports Company South Africa reported via a statement.
Claudia Daniels, who is the Airport Manager at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, welcomed the development, emphasising its role in strengthening both business and leisure connections between regions.
Daniels said the additional flights will will reinforce business and tourism ties and enhance air transport links between the two regions.
