Real estate developer, Atterbury has confirmed that the construction of a new direct-current distribution centre (DC) for the popular online retailer, Takealot in Cape Town is on the cards and is set to launch in August 2022.
According to Eminetra, the 24 000 square meter property consists of a 22 000 square meter warehouse space and 2000 square meter offices designed to provide Takealot with an expansion option to add an extra 50 000 square meter warehouse.
“The new Takealot DC is designed for sustainability and will feature a dedicated solar PV installation, energy-efficient lighting systems, a rainwater harvesting system and water-efficient landscaping. The transloading facility will provide free shelving height of up to 18 meters and specialized floors”, said Atterbury.
The developer also mentioned that the 6 700 square meter Takealot customer collection centre in Richmond Park is also under construction with the potential to grow to 17 000 square meters, reports The Bharat Express News.
“The customer collection centre will be ready for Takealot to start trading in March 2022,” says Atterbury.
