Winde will serve as Africa’s new co-chair for the Under 2 Coalition of global subnational governments. He will participate in and explore potential for furthering climate action through improved collaboration at all levels of government for both adaptation and mitigation.

The Western Cape Climate Change Implementation Plan: Vision 2050 emphasises that climate change is a challenge that we must all face. Climate change and resource resilience are significant components of the present provincial strategic planning and budgeting cycle.
While the premier is taking African Climate concerns to the world stage in New York, the African Climate Alliance, in partnership with key civil society stakeholders, is convening the third Cape Town Climate Week from the 23 to 28 September.
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning welcomes the deliberations that will take place during Cape Town Climate Week 2024 and encourages all stakeholders to actively participate in such opportunities for collective action that will help to create a climate-resilient and equitable future.
The Western Cape Climate Change Response Strategy and Implementation Plan: Vision 2050 outlines initiatives to promote environmental sustainability and social fairness. By focussing on systemic solutions, the plan helps to strengthen community resilience and advances the province’s goal of a just and sustainable future.

The Cape Town Climate Week resonates with Minister Anton Bredell’s remarks following the president’s recent signing of the Climate Change Act: ‘Our province is committed to ensuring that vulnerable communities are not left behind during this transition. We prioritize equitable access to resources, education and opportunities, empowering all residents to actively participate in climate action’.
