This week, a honeymoon adventure on Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain took an unfortunate turn for a young British couple, reports Cape {town} Etc.
On Monday afternoon, the newlyweds set out to conquer the renowned Platteklip Gorge trail, dreaming of sweeping views and unforgettable memories.
However, the combination of a scorching sun and steep trails quickly turned their romantic outing into a test of endurance.
According to Western Cape Search and Rescue (WSAR) spokesperson David Nel, the couple faced the elements head-on with enthusiasm but soon found themselves wilting under the relentless heat.
‘The Cape Town sun was in no mood for romance, and the freshly married couple soon found themselves overheated and exhausted,’ Nel stated.
It wasn’t long before the bride’s condition became critical.
Fortunately, fate intervened when a passing mountain guide noticed the distress of the couple. He offered rehydration and called for help by dialling the emergency number 021 937 0300.
‘A small rescue team was dispatched, joined by SANParks – Table Mountain National Park rangers, and they were ferried to the summit via the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway,’ Nel added.

Upon reaching the bride, the rescue team promptly treated her with hydration and care, as a Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic attended to her needs.
After rehydration and time to regain strength, she was gently escorted to the upper cable station, where her spirits were likely lifted by the setting sun and reassurance of safety.
In a light-hearted parting message, Nel wished the newlyweds a lifetime full of adventure, saying, ‘May your journey together be as smooth as the cable car ride from the summit of our beautiful Table Mountain.’
