Businesses, NGOs and NPOs including Muslims for Humanity and the Natal Memon Jamaat Foundation (NMJ) came together to support those affected by the violence and looting in parts of South Africa.
On Thursday, communities in Durban received 40 000 loaves of bread and 40 000 litres of milk to help bring some relief to the public who have been plagued by food supply shortages.
Factories, shops and warehouses had been torched and looted throughout the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province which sparked the urgency for businesses to offer assistance. This is seen in the case of Chairman of NMJ, Mohamed Gany, who said that the initiative of transporting food from Gauteng to Durban kicked off on Tuesday night already, as IOL reports.
Marketing coordinator for SANZAP, Mohamed Riaz Fakie who had been in charge of one of the distribution points on Thursday explains that there had been an overwhelming response with those offering help from Gauteng, TimesLive adds.
Meanwhile, according to eNCA, President Cyril Ramaphosa will conduct an oversight visit in KZN on Friday to assess the impact of the violence in the province.
