The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says they are still investigating the shooting incident that took place at a lodge in Muldersdrift where a Pretoria gym owner, Len Cloete, was shot in the head by a police officer.
In a video of the incident that went viral on social media, Cloete was seen shouting at police, and then disarming a police officer when another officer cop fired a single shot that hit Cloete in the head. He is now believed to be in a coma.
At the time of the incident, IPID spokesperson Grace Langa said that cases of discharging of a firearm and attempted murder are currently under investigation, however, there was no reason to arrest the police officers involved. Almost a month later and Langa stuck to her statement, indicating that IPID have not yet arrested the police officers involved and are not planning to arrest them as they have no reason to.
“We not going to arrest any one of them, at this current state we don’t have any basis to arrest the officers involved in that incident,” Langa said.

Meanwhile, Cloete’s wife Chantal said in a Facebook post that his infection count peaked over 4900 at a stage that created several complications including DIC, which causes oxygen starvation in the tissue of the body’s extremities.
“This leads to gangrene. We pray for the perfect perfusion and blood flow to every part of his body. We speak life over Len’s circulatory system and release complete healing, in his body’s functioning, in Jesus Name,” the post read.
