Due to the results of a recent epidemiological analysis, the Health Minister proposes that regulations that require the use of masks in public indoor areas are dropped entirely.
In a memo by Minister Joe Phaahla, dated 02 June 2022, it is stated that there has been a decline in several “critical indicators”, such as a decline in reported cases, hospitalisations, and deaths.
Based on these indicators, the National Department of Health proposed on the morning of 20 June that regulation 16A (mask-wearing), regulation 16B (gatherings) and regulation 16C (entry limitations) no longer need to be in place at the present moment.
The President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) on COVID-19 is expected to consider ratifying the recommendations when it meets on Wednesday as reported by News24.
