The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Hout Bay station has now joined ongoing efforts to locate Nick Frischke, a German tourist who reportedly went missing on 14 February 2023.
According to IOL, NSRI Hout Bay station commander Spencer Oldham said the 22-year-old was last seen in Hout Bay on the Hangberg trail, which connects Hout Bay and Sandy Bay.

Over the weekend, word of missing 22-year-old Nick Frischke spread as police and his family stepped up their search for him after he was last seen visiting the V&A Waterfront on Valentine’s Day.
According to police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi, Pinelands police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Frischke, who was last seen in a store at the V&A Waterfront after leaving his Pinelands residence around 10am.
Frischke was last seen wearing blue denim shorts with white takkies, a beige t-shirt and a backpack.
Following a briefing led by the Police Dive Unit at the NSRI Hout Bay rescue station on Tuesday, NSRI Hout Bay joined the ongoing search for Frischke, extending the police diver’s search into Hout Bay.
Two NSRI Hout Bay rescue boats were launched, accompanied by police divers, to search from the seaside along the Karbonkelberg, while a Western Cape Health EMS rescue drone squad was activated.
A police K9 search and rescue team, Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) members, and WSAR K9 search and rescue teams would continue to search the area extensively.
Anyone with information that could help find Frischke and lead to his return is asked to call Detective Sergeant Daluxolo Mhlauli at 076 609 0764 or call Crime Stop at (800) 101-11.
